Follow My Paper Trail

I hope you are all keeping well during these unprecedented times. I wanted to share a new project with you that I thought would be ideal at this time. It is called ‘Follow My Paper Trail’. Growing up in Japan I often enjoyed making origami (paper folding craft), and I discovered the other day I have actually left a little paper trail from Japan to Brazil to Australia! Some friends reached out to me recently saying they will never forget the time I taught them how to make an origami paper crane. I didn’t realise how significant it was for them and how they remembered me as the origami girl. Now that we are all so connected at this time through the internet, I wanted to expand that paper trail to other parts of the world, from me to you.

I have struggled with my health over the years, yet that situation allowed me the time to sit down to make origami. I made little Japanese doll bookmarks out of paper. As I made each one I thought of who I might give it to. I wanted to give them all away as gifts hoping it would make people happy. It made me forget about my struggles, my pain and discomfort as I made each fold. I made them at a time I had to put my life ‘on hold’ and giving time to origami proved uplifting for me and kept me from thinking about the worries of tomorrow. I just focussed on one fold at a time. I can’t help but think we all have to put our life ‘on hold’ at this time but there is so much we can be doing and learning! Creating with origami helped me focus on the beautiful designs. It made me feel peaceful and happy. I felt calm.

Now I want to make some paper creations with you! I have chosen five of my original songs and have paired them with an origami piece. I would be so happy if you can join me, making them together. I know some of you are so creative and I can’t wait to see how elaborate you might get or how you choose to display them! If you haven’t done much origami before, don’t worry I will take you through the steps and we will start simple. Our first challenge starts in just a few days! Please subscribe to my website to get notifications. Stay safe everyone!
